Why Haynes Motor Museum Flies the Flag for Somerset 365 Days of the Year

Haynes International Motor Museum, founded by John H Haynes OBE, the creator and driving force behind the hugely successful Haynes Publishing Group, is one Charity that has its roots firmly planted in Somerset soil, and the team behind John’s nearly 400 vehicle collection will be flying the flag from the roof-tops of their most prestigious cars on May 11th, with a Covid-safe breakfast club planned for May 9th.

But of course, ‘Haynes’ doesn’t need to wait until May to fly the flag - today, the Museum, a leading visitor attraction, inspires the next generation to explore, discover and experience the story of the motorcar with its multi-award winning, world renowned Collection, in Somerset 365-days of the year.

There must have been so many reasons why John chose Somerset to set up home and his business, but when visitors and locals are asked what they love about Somerset, the answer frequently given is “the people”, says Katie Stanley, Marketing Manager at Haynes IMM. “When John Haynes used to stop by the Café 750, people would frequently stop for a chat with him and he was always happy to oblige fellow enthusiasts with photographs, engage in conversation and share his passion for cars.”

Katie Stanley who has helped support Somerset Day as Haynes International Motor Museum, Marketing Manager, for over three years says: “We’re proud to be located in one of the most beautiful County’s! It’s the place to plan a road trip; being close to the A303 many of our visitors are exploring the area and visiting attractions like us.

There is a great local community who actively seek to visit and support local attractions, and as an independent charity this is something we truly appreciate.

With so many small to medium businesses and organisations in the area there’s always something exciting to be a part of, like Somerset Day! The most memorable Somerset Day event was in 2019, when the Museum’s Workshop and Restoration team restored an Austin A40 Somerset (the only car named after the county of Somerset) and drove around the county, stopping along the way to give away Museum tickets!

For Somerset Day this year we’ll be proudly flying the flag for Somerset right here at the Museum and Café 750, we’ll also be inviting our like-minded car enthusiasts to join us at our Haynes Breakfast Club Vintage and Classic Car meet on Sunday 9 May* to fly the flag too with their beautiful vehicles. We’ll be sharing lots of photos and stories on our website and social channels too of course! The Breakfast Club event can be pre-booked now on our website himm.co.uk. Covid-19 guidelines apply.”
