Somerset Day takes place on Saturday 11th May - the final countdown is on!

Saturday 11thMay 2019 sees the fifth Somerset Day take place. In just one week’s time the county of Somerset will be alive with celebrations!

Last year, Somerset Day saw over 200 events taking place throughout the county, this year the team of organisers is expecting many more as Somerset Day grows in popularity, and as people all over the county come together to put on a celebration too good to miss!

And there are some treats instore, so take a look through the list and join in where you can.

A special vintage car that has been restored by one of the apprentices at the Haynes Motor Museum is undertaking a special road trip on Somerset Day, including a ticket giveaway to the Museum. There’ll be a town crier competition in Ilminster; live music from the Mangled Wurzels at The Railway Inn, Sandford; whilst in the county town the award winning Eat:Taunton takes place.

Throughout the county, there’ll be craft fairs and food fairs, open days, tea parties and cider and cheese tastings - something for everyone so please take a look www.somersetday.comfor the full list of what’s on.

Haynes International Motor Museumis organising a special road trip in a 1954 Austin A40 Somerset car from the Museum Collection on Somerset Day between 9.00am and 4.00pm. Bishops Lydeard Somerset Day Yarnbombwill be in place for the whole month of May, based on Jules Verne’s Around the World in 80 Days. Please pop along and see all the hard work that has been done this year to make the beautiful village even more colourful.

On 11th May from 12pm - 6pm, The Railway Inn, Sandfordwill have live music from ‘The Mangled Wurzels’, dancing and entertainment from Mendip Morris, tractors old and new on display, Thatchers Cider and cheese sampling, a charity cake sale, and entertainment for the kids!

Visit the award winning Eat:Tauntonon Somerset Day 10am - 5pm in Hammet Street, Taunton. This is a free to attend locally focused food and drink festival in the heart of the county town. ​

The Ilminster Town Criercompetition takes place on Somerset Day from 10.30 to 2pm. Town Criers from throughout the UK will parade and compete for a variety of trophies.

The Centre for Young Musicians Taunton, is opening up its doors on Somerset Day 2019. There will be an opportunity for visitors to see the Centre in action and to enjoy a Soloists’ Concert by students at 12.00 in the Willow Cafe at Richard Huish College.

Street Parish Councilis organising a day for families and the community to come together and celebrate between 10.30am and 4.00pm – including music from Glastonbury Brass, dancing from Topaz Dance and the Chalice Morris Men.

The Castle Bow Restaurant in Taunton is laying on Somerset Day Sparkling Apple Wine Afternoon Tea from 6thMay to 12thMay, and there’s a special Somer-Set Menu too.
