The Somerset Day Community Interest Company launches a new service to support the county’s independent traders.
Shop Somerset, the first interactive map and listing facility of its kind for the county, is extending its service to offer a go to resource for all independent businesses based in Somerset. Shop Somerset provides a showcase for traders, businesses, their products and services, allowing them to connect with consumers in their local communities and further afield.
Originally launched as a response to the Covid:19 pandemic in April 2020, Shop Somerset initially attracted listings from independent food and drink businesses. Its aim was to connect food and drink traders with their local communities as the need for lockdown-savvy food shopping and delivery services grew in demand. 110 businesses signed up.
Now, a new interactive Shop Somerset website is being launched by the Somerset Day Community Interest Company, to connect local communities and those with a connection to Somerset, with the fabulous businesses in the county.
Lucy Housley, a director of Somerset Day Community Interest Company, the organisation behind Shop Somerset, said “This is an incredibly exciting development for the many independent businesses who are such a key part of our local economy and local communities. We look forward to working with businesses – from artisan bakers to artists, from potters to performers across Somerset to raise the flag for Somerset and all it has to offer.”
“As the UK strives to return to a ‘new normal’ with a focus on healthier living, shopping locally and supporting independent businesses, the time is right to grow Shop Somerset into the go-to resource for anyone seeking to reduce their carbon footprint and support local businesses. Buy local, buy Somerset.”
Shop Somerset launches on 16th November, and can be found here SHOP SOMERSET.
Earlier this year The Somerset Day Community Interest Company was awarded a grant by the National Lottery Community Fund in support of Shop Somerset.
