Fly the Flag for Somerset Day
The 'Fly the Flag for Somerset' theme will be at the heart of Somerset Day 2021 and organisations, communities, businesses and individuals will be encouraged to arrange their celebrations around it over the weekend of 8th and 9th May through to 11th May.
The Workshop and Restoration Centre team at our Official Partners, Haynes International Motor Museum, are already getting into the swing of things ! The car pictured is one of the team's restoration projects for a customer, a very rare 1934 Alvis Speed 20 Flat back, one of only 8 known survivors (36 originally made)
In a departure from previous years, we will provide guidance and templates for those taking part in celebrating Somerset Day.
This ‘theme’ has the advantage of enabling everyone to celebrate Somerset Day safely whatever the Covid restrictions might or might not be, come May.
We plan to turn Somerset into a sea of Somerset flags and bunting, flying from public and community buildings, churches, schools, village flagpoles, gardens, windows, cars etc. and to get all primary school children involved with colouring the Somerset flag and other associated activities.
This will be a great opportunity to send out a positive message of hope and celebration across the County.
If Covid restrictions allow the celebrations will be extended to ‘hero’ communities with street parties/maypole parties/cider and cheese parties – all following the Fly the Flag for Somerset theme.
