Bangers galore as votes flood in to choose the recipe for a special sausage

The Somerset Day inspired Absolute Bangers competition has proved a big hit with the public after nearly 1,000 votes were cast online to choose a recipe for a special Somerset Day sausage to be made and sold by Pyne’s of Somerset.

With recipes ranging from Somerset Venison & Red Currant to Pork, Black pudding & smoked Bacon, the final saw the more traditional recipes favoured.

The competition was promoted online with a slightly ‘saucy’ video which was widely viewed, with a last minute surge pushing Samantha Vowles’ recipe for a Pork, Cheddar and Thatchers Cider sausage past the winning post.

The winning sausage will be available to try and buy on Somerset Day at the EatTaunton Festival and at Pyne’s of Somerset in North Petherton.

It will also be on the menu at various locations including Taunton School, Mr Miles Tea room, Taunton, South West Larder at Hinkley Point C,Admirals Landing and the Bank.

Winner Samantha Vowles said "I am absolutely chuffed to have won this competition for coming up with the official Somerset Day sausage. I saw it on Facebook and my mind immediately went to some of the fabulous food and drink produced in Somerset - Cheddar cheese and Thatcher's cider. And combined in a Pyne's pork sausage? Heaven! The only way you could make it more "Somerset" is to stuff the Wurzels in there as well!”
