Somerton and Creech St Michael Primary schools to fly their own flags for Somerset
With Somerset Day fast approaching Primary School children across Somerset have been busy working hard to design a flag which represents their idea of Somerset.
The competition, which was launched by Somerset County Council Support Services for Education in conjunction with Somerset Day, saw over 280 entries. One of the judges Cllr Christine Lawrence said “ judging was really difficult because there were so many wonderful designs. It was clear that children had put a lot of thought and effort into their designs and in a way they are all winners !”
Choosing an overall winner turned out to be the biggest challenge of all for the judges and in the end they couldn’t choose between Phoebe Welsher from Creech St Michael Primary School and Daisy Hazzard from King Ina Primary School, Somerton – so both were announced as joint overall winners.
Their designs are being made into flags by Somerset Day partner Red Dragon Flagmakers which will then be presented to the winners and their schools to be flown proudly.
All winning entries can be seen on the Somerset Day website here Primary School flag design winners
Those whose designs came first, second and third in each group receive recognition with prizes which include family tickets to Haynes International Motor Museum, kindly donated by Somerset Day partner Haynes, Amazon vouchers and Somerset flags.
