Since 1904, four generations of the Thatcher family have been making cider at Myrtle Farm, in Sandford, Somerset.
Thatchers passion for quality has led to an unrivalled range of premium ciders, with its deep knowledge of apple varieties resulting in innovative ciders that are full of flavour and with a distinct character that reflects English cidermaking at its best. Its ciders include flagship brand Thatchers Gold, Thatchers Haze, Thatchers Vintage and Thatchers Katy.
Martin Thatcher feels strongly about supporting Somerset Day “After all what would Somerset be without cider? We’re a Somerset company through and through. My family has lived in the county for generations, and celebrating Somerset is what we do every day of our lives through our orchards, which are such a stunning part of our local environment, to the cider we make. For us, Somerset Day is all about coming together with friends and family, in our community, and celebrating this fantastic area we live and work in.”
Pyne’s of Somerset has become a destination for food shoppers from across three counties, some of them regularly driving 40 miles to get there.
It’s sited just off the M5 at North Petherton where Malcolm and Julie Pyne relocated from the village centre in 2011.
The business has grown hugely since but the fundamentals remain unchanged: meat is from locally-raised livestock which, says Malcolm Pyne, means customers are guaranteed unmatchable quality, whether buying prime cuts or his national award-winning sausages and burgers.
Pyne’s also offers fresh fish, a delicatessen counter, speciality regional products, Somerset ciders and a hot food takeaway.

The Leveller® was launched in 2010 and has grown rapidly to become Somerset’s largest circulation newspaper. The paper has challenged the expectations set by our local press with newspapers that are not full of pictures, that contain actual news and that attempts to hold politicians and those in authority to account.
The philosophy behind the Leveller® is that newspapers should be about building communities. That means bringing communities together through our work. It means providing a platform of trust between our readers and our advertisers. Something that social media simply cannot do. We believe in a bright future for newspapers.

Wells Cathedral School is a family-orientated co-educational boarding and day school for 2-18 year olds which provides an all-round education alongside world-class Specialist Music and Chorister training.
Founded in AD 909, Wells is among one of the oldest schools in Europe with stunning medieval halls, beautiful Georgian boarding houses and a state-of-the-art 21st century concert hall. Our mission is to inspire every individual pupil to nurture their talents in a vibrant, creative, spiritual and safe environment. Located in the city of Wells, the School enjoys a close relationship with Wells Cathedral.
Our ancient motto esto quod es – “Be what you are” – represents the School’s belief in the individuality of each pupil. The School lives by its core values of Creativity, Aspiration, Responsibility and Endeavour, which appropriately enough spell ‘care’, and this represents the most important thing of all – ‘that we all take care of each other, and that we are kind to each other.’
Cedars Hall is a world-class performing arts venue in the City of Wells. Designed by leading London architect, Eric Parry, it was opened in autumn 2016 and provides entertainment for everyone from local residents in Wells to visitors from further afield. The Hall provides capacity for audiences of 350 in its main recital hall named Eavis Hall after Michael Eavis, CBE, founder of the Glastonbury Festival.
Whilst the hall’s award-winning design was devised to give chamber musicians the very best acoustic experience, the flexibility of the technical specification means that this venue is accessible for performers of every discipline – for amplified music, dance, drama, films, comedy and talks.
Cedars Hall also has a spacious foyer, bar and state-of-the-art recording facilities.

Coates English Willow Visitor Centre is the home of P. H. Coate & Son, founded by willow grower and merchant Robert Coate in 1819, and still run by the Coate family today.
The Somerset Levels is the most important wetland area in the U.K. This unique landscape provides the perfect conditions for willow growing.
Basket making willow, known as “Withies”, has been grown here for two centuries, and it is now the only area left where it is still cultivated for the production of baskets, furniture, garden items and high-quality artists’ charcoal.
Here indeed is the heart of the English willow industry, an industry that in many ways has not changed for centuries
